Bookkeeping & Accounting for Small Businesses Professional Certificate
About Course
Many small businesses and community groups run on memory and loose notes, which makes it hard to know whether money is really being made. This course teaches the standard, practical skills of bookkeeping and basic accounting so that you can keep clear, honest records and use them to make better decisions.
It is designed for owners and helpers of small shops, market traders, small service businesses and community groups in South Sudan and East Africa, and for young people who want a practical finance skill. No earlier accounting knowledge is needed. All examples use a neutral unit called currency units (CU), so the ideas apply whatever money you use.
You will move step by step: why records matter, recording transactions with the cash book and double-entry, the ledger and trial balance, stock, credit, depreciation and wages, and finally the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, break-even and budgeting. Each lesson includes worked numeric examples and a hands-on activity using pen and paper or a free spreadsheet.
The course runs at a steady pace of about 22 study hours in total, with a quiz after each module, a capstone month of bookkeeping for a fictional shop, and a final examination. This is a practical skills course. It gives a Bang Ti Lenydoor certificate of completion and is not a professional accounting qualification. Rules on registration, tax and employment differ by place, so always check them with the relevant authority or a qualified professional.
