About Course

NewThis certificate just launched and is open for enrollment now.

This beginner course teaches you to make short, clear and respectful videos using tools that cost nothing to start with: your phone camera, the free version of CapCut on a phone, and the free editors Kdenlive and DaVinci Resolve on a computer. It is written for young people and staff of small organisations in South Sudan and East Africa who often work with a phone or a low-spec laptop and limited data.

You begin with the thinking that comes before the camera: purpose, audience, a one-sentence message, a shot list, and the ethics of filming people, including consent and the safeguarding of children. You then learn phone filming skills such as steady shots, framing, light and clean audio, followed by the core ideas of editing: the timeline, trimming, cuts, transitions, text and export. Because screens and menus change between versions and between phone and computer, the lessons teach what each function does so that you can find the equivalent option on your own device.

The later modules cover sound mixing, voice-over, captions and subtitles, accessibility, exporting for WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube with low data, file management and backups, and the general principles of copyright and music licences. For legal questions, the course teaches principles only and tells you to check local rules with the relevant authority or a qualified professional.

The course has 23 written lessons, a quiz after each of the first five modules, a capstone project to make a two-minute community video with a self-assessment checklist, and a 12-question final examination. It is designed for about 20 hours of study at your own pace. On completion you receive a Bang Ti Lenydoor certificate of completion; it is not an accredited qualification.
