About Course

NewThis certificate just launched and is open for enrollment now.

Whether you grow crops, keep animals, fish, trade produce or study agriculture, the decisions you make are business decisions. This course teaches the standard, practical ideas of agribusiness so that you can see your enterprise as part of a value chain, understand your buyers and make plans based on facts rather than guesses.

It is designed for young farmers, farmer group members, traders and agriculture students in South Sudan and East Africa. No earlier training is needed. All examples are fictional and are labelled as illustrations, and every activity can be done with pen and paper or with free tools such as LibreOffice Calc. The course teaches general principles only: it gives no prices, yields or crop statistics, and no chemical rates. For technical farming advice, follow your local extension officer, the product label and your national agriculture authority.

You will move step by step: what agribusiness is and how value chains work; simple market analysis, goals and enterprise budgets with gross margin and break-even; record keeping, post-harvest handling, storage, food safety and adding value; groups, cooperatives, savings groups, finance and mobile money; and finally climate risk, inclusion, sustainability, contracts, negotiation and logistics.

The course runs at a steady pace of about 20 study hours in total, with a quiz after each module, a capstone project (a one-page value-chain map and a simple enterprise budget for a fictional enterprise) and a final examination. This is a practical skills course. It gives a Bang Ti Lenydoor certificate of completion and is not an accredited qualification, and it does not promise a job, income or profit.
