About Course

NewThis certificate just launched and is open for enrollment now.

Cloud computing is already part of daily life, from webmail to shared documents and online storage, yet many people and small organisations use it without understanding how it works, what it costs or what can go wrong. This course explains the ideas in plain language, so that you can make sensible, safe choices for yourself, your group or your workplace.

It is designed for beginners: students, volunteers, NGO and community workers, small business owners and anyone curious about the cloud. No technical background is needed. Activities need only pen and paper, a free word processor, or free consumer accounts you already have. No activity requires a credit card or a paid account, and the course quotes no prices because they change. Screens and features change too, so you are shown the ideas and asked to use the equivalent option in your own tools. Examples are fictional illustrations, often set in South Sudan and East Africa, with weak connectivity in mind.

The course has six modules and 23 written lessons: what the cloud is; service and deployment models; core building blocks; using cloud services as a small organisation; security, privacy and reliability; and planning, with a capstone. There is a quiz after every module, a 12-question final examination, and a capstone project in which you write a cloud adoption plan for a fictional small NGO and check it against a self-assessment checklist.

Study at your own pace: about 20 hours in total. On completion you receive a Bang Ti Lenydoor certificate of completion. It is not an accredited qualification, and the course does not promise jobs, income or funding. Where law or regulation matters, you are taught the general principle and asked to check local rules with the relevant authority or a qualified professional.
