Introduction to Python Programming course cover

About Course

Python is the most widely taught first programming language in the world, and for good reason: it reads close to plain English, it runs on almost anything, and it is used seriously in web development, data analysis, automation and scientific work.

This course assumes you have never written a line of code. It starts with what a program actually is and builds, lesson by lesson, to the point where you can write a working program that reads real files, handles its own errors, and does something useful you would otherwise do by hand.

What makes this course different

Most beginner courses teach syntax and leave you able to follow examples but unable to write anything of your own. This one spends as much time on the thinking as the typing: how to break a problem into steps, how to read an error message instead of fearing it, and how to find the fault when a program runs but produces the wrong answer. A dedicated mini-projects module (a number guessing game, a unit converter, Rock-Paper-Scissors, and a file-backed to-do list) and a module on dates, randomness, and turtle graphics give you several small, complete programs to build — not just isolated exercises.

How the course is structured

Seven content modules, each with four written lessons, a quiz, and a practical assignment where you write and run real code, followed by a capstone project and a final certification examination. On completion you receive a certificate with a unique ID that anyone can verify publicly.

Where it leads next

This course and the Intermediate Python Programming Professional Certificate are designed as one continuous path: together they take a complete beginner through roughly 4 to 6 months of self-paced, part-time study — from your first program to building tested, database-backed command-line applications.

What Will You Learn?

  • Write, run and debug Python programs from a blank file
  • Use variables, conditions and loops to express everyday logic
  • Organise code into functions so it can be reused and tested
  • Store and manipulate data with lists and dictionaries
  • Read and write real files, and handle errors without crashing
  • Read an error message and locate the fault yourself
  • Build small, complete programs: a number guessing game, a unit converter, Rock-Paper-Scissors, and a file-backed to-do list
  • Work with dates and times, generate and control randomness, and draw with Python's turtle graphics module
