About Course

NewThis certificate just launched and is open for enrollment now.

Organisations of every size depend on computers, phones, mobile money and the internet, and they need people who understand how security fails and how to protect against it. This course introduces ethical hacking as a professional, legal and defensive discipline: the mindset, the rules, the methods and the habits of people who help organisations find and fix weaknesses with permission.

This course is conceptual and defensive. It does not teach anyone how to break into systems. Learners must only ever test systems they own or have written permission to test, because testing without written authorisation is illegal in most countries. Please check the rules that apply to you with the relevant authority or a qualified professional. Every practical activity uses pen and paper, checklists, fictional scenarios, or a review of your own accounts and devices.

The course is for learners who have completed, or are comfortable with, an introduction to cybersecurity. It has six modules and 24 written lessons: ethics, law and the security mindset; how systems and networks work; threats and vulnerabilities; security assessment methodology; defence and response; and reporting, careers and a capstone. Examples are fictional and set in small NGO and small business settings that suit South Sudan and East Africa.

You will study at your own pace for about 20 hours in total, with a quiz after every module, a capstone project that is a written security self-assessment, and a 12-question final examination. On completion you receive a Bang Ti Lenydoor certificate of completion, which is not an accredited or formal qualification. The course does not promise jobs, income or funding.
